First 3 Goals

Set Your First 3 Goals for Your Resume Business

Do you already have goals set for the rest of this year? Are they written down?

I'm not talking about New Year's resolutions - I'm talking about GOALS.

Of course, world events have likely caused you to forget your goals, doubt your goals, or even give up on your goals. But I'm not going to let that happen!

Because you are here - there is a twinkle in your eye and a thought running through your brain that a Resume Business might just be for you.  Am I right?

Let's grab your GOALS and keep it mov'in!

Let's put some fire under those goals.

I want you to get a Spiral notebook - you will come to find that those are one of my most favorite (and inexpensive) tools. I want you to write on the cover, or find a label and mark it with a sharpie, or for my Type A's or creatives - generate either a P-Touch label or print a fancy label from your computer. See how much time I spent there talking about labels - personality shines through.

Okay? I know you

Not a Hobby

Uncategorized Jul 17, 2020
It is important to plan and run your Resume Business like a business and not like a hobby. Here's why...

In the early days of running your solo or small business, it can feel like an enjoyable hobby. Treating it as such, however, can lead to a number of problems and most certainly will not lead you to earning six figures.

Here are 4 important steps to consider so that you can START your Resume Business off as a BUSINESS and not as a hobby.

1. Organization: When treating your new business like a hobby, you’re likely to become increasingly disorganized. This is manageable if you only have a few clients, but you’ll quickly find your business growing, and you don't want to spend unnecessary time (that you could be gathering new clients) trying to get organized.

To establish a BUSINESS, you’ll need to develop a system for managing your invoices, expenses, cash flow, and other paperwork, and you’ll want to store it in a centralized location. Fortunately, digital programs make it easier to do

Your In Demand

Uncategorized Jul 17, 2020

First, let’s review some statistics: The Labor Department's June 2020 report showed that nearly 18 Million Americans were out of work.

That is just shy of 1.2 Million people who filed first-time claims for for jobless benefits last week.

They join the roughly 30 Million Americans who are already claiming unemployment benefits. How many unemployed Americans are there right now?

According to Joe Brusuelas, Chief Economist at RSM consulting, (If you count everyone) - "All of the people who were receiving some form of unemployment benefits — and that’s north of 31 Million People,” he said.*

This is the highest in recent history, due to the Covid-19 crisis.

While this is all very disturbing news, it provides an opportunity for you, as a Resume Writer and Interview Coach, to make a difference to job seekers and provide valuable services at a critical time in this country. And change your life in the process.

Your Why

Uncategorized Jul 17, 2020

My 'Why' is my family - my husband Derrick and our two daughters Ciara and Jada. They were only 6 and 2 when I started my business. I was running every morning - running to get them fed, dressed and to daycare and school - running (usually late) to work, running to the store, running to get fast food for dinner - running through homework to get to bath time and then running to bed to get ready to do it all again the next day.

If you don’t have a compelling, emotional reason for what you’re doing — meaning if you don’t have a strong enough why — you’ll get frustrated, bored, upset and may quit. Remember, the more emotion you have connected to what you want, the more power and commitment you’ll have to stay the course and create results. Think about how the results you want will impact your life: financially, physically, emotionally, socially, intellectually and spiritually. How will reaching these goals impact your ability to contribute to the world? How will they impact your well-b...

Welcome to the Resume Business Building Blog
I wanted to take a moment to say 'hello' and introduce myself.

I'm Kara, a self-proclaimed night-owl. In fact, as I write this, it is about 1 am and my writing partner (my dog Winter - a miniature schnauzer mix) is sleeping in my office right next to me.

I've been building and scaling my business for just short of 9 years now. When I started, I was working full-time in a well-paying, program management position, with 2 kids 6 and under, and living in military housing.

As a  military wife, most of the household duties fell on me. I was an Army brat, so that wasn't the hard part. At this juncture in my roller coaster of a career - based on frequent moves, the availability of jobs in a new city, and/or my husband being deployed... I was tired. I knew there had to be a better way.

To make a long story short, when a neighbor asked me to take a look at his resume, I had that 'ah ha' moment that Oprah often talks about. I rewrote his resume (withou
